Sharmila Reddy Controversies
Scuffles with the Police:
Sharmila has on numerous occasions been caught fighting with the police at the time of protests. In November 2022, she was attacked by workers of the BRS when she participated in a padayatra in Telangana. She was arrested later after trying to march to the home of CM KCR under IPC sections of assault on public servants. She was detained in April 2023 and was remanded 14 days after video footage captured her pushing, hitting officers and smashing her car into a constable outside her home in Hyderabad when attempting an illegal protest, among other charges of voluntarily causing hurt and mischief. These incidents deprived her of support because she was aggressive in reaction, but it was argued that she was acting in self-defense when it came to restrictions to move.
Rumors of Personal Affair:
In 2019, Sharmila complained to the police about TDP spreading social media rumours of an illicit relationship with actor Prabhas, claiming it was a smear campaign against her campaign, and that she had heard similar accusations about their relationship in 2014 as well.
