In March 2018 at the Cappelle-la-Grande Open, Gukesh became an International Master. He also turned into a grandmaster in 2019 at age 12, 7 months and 17 days, becoming the third-youngest in the history of martial arts. The second place was taken by Abhimanyu Mishra
