KTM is a Kannada romantic drama movie, directed by Aruna, which was released on 16 February 2024. Though KTM is a sad but touching story of a young man and how he is thrown into love, friendship, heartbreak, and self-discovery in the process of trying to mature in a world of twelve years. The movie is an emotional roller coaster of Karthik Bhat, who is helplessly eager to try to juggle tricky relationships with Tanya and Mercy, and introduces the theme of unpredictability of love, perseverance, and new life.
The movie starts with the love of Karthik towards Tanya in his hometown. After being broken by it, he moves to Bengaluru to pursue his studies, where he comes across Mercy. The storyline embodies the role of love in crafting relationships, both personal and career, and family. It also talks of the extreme friendships and brings conflict by the way of an antagonist in the shape of a college lecturer. It takes a darker turn in the story as Karthik grapples with anger and alcoholism after a tragedy, and then finally underlines hope and resurrection in love.
The performances are very crucial, and Dheekshith Shetty does it with a compelling and nuanced portrayal of Karthik at various life stages. Sanjana Doss is close to the heart as Mercy, as she is strong and weak at the same time, whereas Kaajal Kunder as Tanya gives a twist to the love triangle. The supporting characters support the main characters perfectly, and the emotional and romantic side of the film makes one want to watch it over and over again.
Although the narrative contains a few inconsistencies and is even predictable, the new interpretation of youth, love, and emotional development of KTM is appealing to the audience who values touching stories in movies. This is also subtly different in the movie, which teaches that when we fail in love or lose someone, we are only just starting a new one.
